A Design Optimization of Low-Phase-Noise LC-VCO Using Multiple-Divide Technique

چکیده
The multiple-divide technique, using the multiratio frequency divider, has a possibility to improve FoM of VCO. This paper proposes a design optimization of LC-VCO using the multiple-divide technique. In the simulated results using 90-nm CMOS model parameters, the optimum frequency range, achieving better than −187.0 dBc/Hz of FoM, can be extended from 6.5∼12.5 GHz to 1.5∼12.5 GHz. The proposed multiple-divide technique can provide a lower phase-noise, lower power consumption, smaller layout area of LC-VCO.

In this paper, a systematic method for the circuit parameters design of a monolithic LC Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) is reported. The method is based on the negative resistance generation technique. As a result, a VCO has been designed in 0.18um CMOS technology using a conventional VCO structure to obtain the optimum values for the phase noise and power consumption. The simulation result...

متن کاملAnalysis of Phase Noise Degradation Considering Switch Transistor Capacitances for CMOS Voltage Controlled Oscillators
In this paper we present a study on the design optimization of voltage-controlled oscillators. The phase noise of LC-type oscillators is basically limited by the quality factor of inductors. It has been experimentally shown that higher-Q inductors can be achieved at higher frequencies while the oscillation frequency is limited by parasitic capacitances. In this paper, the minimum transistor siz...

Washington State University December 2007 Chair: Deukhyoun Heo This thesis presents novel designs of low-phase-noise 0.18μm CMOS LC voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and quadrature VCO (QVCO) for 5-6GHz wireless communications applications. Using a new capacitor tapping technique, the phase noise of CMOS LC oscillators is lowered based on the improvement of loaded-Q improv...
